Hi … It’s me … MightyMom !

Welcome! I am super excited you made the decision to join me 🙂

Instead of writing a long winded “introduction” and backstory …. I’m going to make it brief and to the point 🙂

My name is Briana. I’m 31 year old working / SAHM to four rambunctious, wild spider monkey’s! Ok, well they’re not really spider monkey’s but there are days they resemble them! Our children are 6, 4, 2 and almost 7 months. I often refer to us as a traveling circus.

Was I always into fitness? No. Not unless you counted dancing at the clubs and doing 12 oz. curls as exercise … in my college years of coarse!! Seriously though… I never was. I’ve always been active but never into health or fitness. I never had a gym membership, I didn’t eat the ‘required daily food groups’, and I often indulged in the last night Mc D’s $1 menu.

I had my first child, a sweet, beautiful 7lb 10oz baby girl … who is now six and thinks she can solve the world in one day … when I was 24. I did not eat healthy AT ALL. Like, at all. Everyone said “Congrats, now you’re eating for two!” And I literally ate for two! I also worked a desk job where my only form of ‘exercise’ was walking to and from the bathroom 378 times a days.  The minute I came home from work I sat on the couch. The date of my delivery they told me I gained 42lbs. It could have been worse, but 42lbs is still, to me, a lot. I had zero energy and I just didn’t feel like me. I didn’t understand how important health and fitness were in general, but especially during and post pregnancy.  It took me about six months to get back down to pre – baby weight.

My second and third, my two wildest spider monkey’s who also turn our living room into a WWE ring on a daily basis, came when I was 26 and 28. I was no longer working my corporate desk job, but I picked up a decent job bartending in the evenings. While I was constantly moving, I still ate crappy, greasy, fatty food and I gained 36 lbs. with each of them. Although always moving at work I still felt sluggish.  After my third baby was born, I wanted to do something for myself. I really wanted to look great and feel good again. I wanted to get my 24 year old, pre – baby body back. A super cool, but tough, local mom suggested a community gym that had recently opened …. Intense Conditioning. HA, I should have known … tough chick … tough class! The name said it all. I was terrified, but I did it, and I felt GREAT! I felt strong, I felt empowered, I felt Mighty! I can still remember the feeling I had walking out of my first ever boot camp class that seriously kicked my butt! I continued taking two – three classes per week and eventually obtained my Group Fitness Certification to teach classes.

While teaching classes, I began to learn the importance of nutrition and how you can’t have one without the other. I wanted to learn more and started my journey to become a certified Personal Trainer and a Fitness Nutrition Specialist. In the midst of all my teaching and studying, I became pregnant with baby #4. Morning sickness and nausea got the best of me the first trimester. But I learned what foods would work best for me and actually help relieve some of the first trimester pregnancy symptoms (to come in a later post!). As I dug deeper into my studies I learned the in’s and out’s of nutrition and I successfully maintained a healthy pregnancy weight. I ate the right foods, I got the necessary nutrients and vitamins both baby and I needed, and I exercised. I was able to cut down my recovery time and the time it took for me to get back to pre- baby weight! If only I had known the secret was health and fitness the entire time!

It sounds cliche, but I never thought that ONE class could change me. But it did. Since then I have developed an intense passion for health and fitness. I am a certified AFAA (Athletics and Fitness Association of America) Group Fitness Instructor, an ACE (American Council on Exercise) Personal Trainer and Fitness Nutrition Specialist, and I have taken several Perinatal courses.
